Following their historic achievement of securing the team’s inaugural 1-2 Driver Championship, Red Bull Racing light-heartedly teased Lando Norris on Instagram. The post featured a video of Norris enjoying a Red Bull, accompanied by a witty and playful caption:
“DW @landonorris, we’ll always have your back in your moment of need #givesyouwings.”
This playful jest occurred shortly after McLaren revealed a “multi-year” collaboration with Monster Energy, a direct rival of Red Bull in the energy drink industry.
The transfer of Monster Energy’s sponsorship from Mercedes to McLaren signifies a noteworthy change in the Formula 1 sponsorship scene. Rodney Sacks, Chair and Co-CEO of Monster Energy, conveyed appreciation to Mercedes and Toto Wolff for their enduring collaboration and expressed anticipation for the upcoming venture with McLaren Racing. He commented:
“Monster is focused on enhancing fan experiences and partnering with a world-class team and its elite drivers to share our passion with F1’s global audience. We are planning some really exciting programs with Lando and Oscar and are excited to go racing together from 2024.”
Zak Brown, the Chief Executive Officer of McLaren Racing, expressed a positive reception to the collaboration with Monster Energy.
“We are delighted to join forces with the iconic Monster Energy brand from next season onwards. Monster focuses on celebrating athletes through bold ideas and creating awesome content, so we can’t wait to explore ideas and find new ways to engage and entertain our fans.”
The alliance comes on the heels of McLaren’s notable achievements in the recent Formula 1 season, where Norris played a pivotal role in securing the team’s fourth-place finish in the constructors’ championship. Despite facing obstacles such as tire degradation and a sluggish pit stop during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Norris showcased commendable early pace, complemented by McLaren’s effective upgrades earlier in the season.
